We Four in Egypt

Now back in the US!

“I like new park.”

So Giggle proclaimed on Saturday night, right before he konked out.

Thanks to some lovely new friends, we found paradise in Cairo, an incredible park with one of the best kids’ playgrounds I’ve seen anywhere. That’s where we spent most of Saturday morning and early afternoon. The boys were delighted. And even though it was hot as blazes, Mr. Four and I were glad to be outside as well.

Al Alzhar Park is sited over an old dump, part of a reclamation project in a poor area of town. You’d never guess it, though, from the marble walkways, cascading fountains, and skyline views. You’d also never guess that kids weren’t allowed to play in the very tempting fountains, which seemed designed to lure children.

Within about twenty minutes of arriving, Giggle was asking if we could go there again. We will, probably this weekend, and then again son after that. It’s a great place, just what I never dreamed we’d find.

  1. Maya loved the park too and she keeps asking to go there to play with “da kids”. We’ll probably be back this weekend too, especially since the weather is cooler, although we’re not sure which day. Maybe we’ll see you there!
