We Four in Egypt

Now back in the US!

The shipment is coming, the shipment is coming!

Over 900 pounds of our things arrived today, quite a few weeks later than we expected. Apparently Homeland Security tightened up shipping rules after we, along with several other new colleagues, had packed our stuff and sent it to the shipper, but before it all made its way to Egypt. And then because of the new rules, my employer had a hard time finding anyone to bring it all over.

But it’s here now, exploding all over our apartment. And the boys are thrilled. Here they are in the play area, part of the living room/dining room combo.

When we first arrived, our apartment looked stark. Here’s a corner of the living room untouched by the unpacking chaos.

Then, I got used to it. Now, I can’t imagine why we thought we needed so much stuff! Mr. Four is convinved about half of the weight is in tampons, which I now know are readily available in every pharmacy in this country. But a girl can’t be too careful about these things.

Certainly the highlight of the shipment, for me at least, were the vanilla sandwich cookies we packed for some strange reason. This type of sugary sweet is available here, but we’re not buying them. And with my stomach finally feeling a little better, they tasted oh-so-good.

In any case, all this unpacking was a great reason to get out the camera and show you a bit more of our apartment, including our bedroom.

And here’s a view down our hall.

Soon, we hope, we’ll be unpacked and finally moved into our new place.

  1. The apartment looks very roomy and bright. I bet the boys are so glad to have some of their things finally. Glad to hear that Homeland Security delay wasn’t any longer than a few weeks.

  2. Great pics! So fun to see the boys playing. Got a huge chuckle out of the paper products line. I still remember trying to pack 6 weeks of diaper wipes for ET….we ran out half way through the trip. Here’s hoping yours last you longer….even if they are readily available.

  4. Kim, you’re right–our apartment is roomy and bright. It was a great surprise. The best part is that the front of the building faces north, and the back, with our bedrooms, faces south, so we have morning sun in the bedrooms and afternoon sun in the living area.

Keely, we were SO glad to get diapers and wipes! We still might run out. Then again, maybe Bug will be all potty trained before then.
