We Four in Egypt

Now back in the US!

Exciting day!

Sure, we went to the Pyramids (more on that later), but big news is that our washing machine is now installed and working! Hooray!

It’s been a very long week since we left home with a few suitcases of clothes, and that was our last washing machine access.

Here is the bore-you-to-tears story: I bought a new machine on Tuesday (recall that I had to wait for prayers to end), and I arranged for the store to deliver it, as well as our new iron and vacuum cleaner, on Wednesday. Interestingly, the store was thrilled that I was willing to pay “liquid cash” rather than use a credit card, so happy that they insisted I pay for the bulk of the purchase at delivery.

After it’s delivered, an installation person from the manufacturer comes later to, well, install the machine. Mohamed the sales guy said this would happen on Thursday. We were already feeling desperate. Thursday passed with no installation.

Well, imagine our delight and surprise when the LG installation man arrived this afternoon, on a Saturday no less! So it’s now working. The washing machines here are front loaders with impossibly long cycles, and we’ll be drip drying our clothes on a rack on our balcony.

But who cares… I can send my son to school in clean underwear!
